A Sister Learns To
Accept Her New Sister
My
family and I have been dealing with an issue
of what seemed like the end of the world. My
brother has been married for 8 years and
told us that he was getting a divorce. he
family was shocked they had the picture
perfect life.
About
three days later he told us of his internal
struggle with his gender. He had been living
a lie for 30 years and was tired of it. His
wife and him were still best friends and
always will be but he needed to move on to
bigger and better things. He had been in
counseling and on meds for a year. Well, he
now lives his life as Christine. By next
summer she hopes to be her true self and be
a real female.
I have to
admit, at the time, I was in total shock. I
thought my world was over how could I ever
face the embarrassment? I was at a complete
loss. How on earth could my brother not want
to be my brother anyone? Why would he want
to change who he is? God had made him a man
and he should stay that way.
As the
weeks went on, I did more investigating on
the net and at the library. I began to
understand that what he was going through
was not intended to upset the family but,
rather, to make himself more complete.
We have
grown so close over the last few months, and
I would not change a thing. She is the
happiest I have ever seen her. I am proud to
walk beside her and call her my sister. I
love the new person she has become.
I wish
that all families out there could find it in
their heart to go to the next level of
understanding and realize that your
son/daughter/brother/sister or whatever are
just following their dreams and not making
choices to hurt you. Stand beside them. Be
proud of their strength, their courage to
make the changes, and just support them.
Well, I
think I have said all I wanted to. I just
thought that it would be nice for you all to
hear a positive story for a change. I love
my sister and I look forward to having many
more rewarding years with her!!
